Children Of Lir Throw Blanket
The ‘Children of Lir’ is one of Ireland’s best known legends and, like most Irish tales, it doesn’t exactly have a happy ending.
Lir’s children where Fionnuala, Aodh, Fiachra and Conn. When their mother passed away he married her sister Aoife, who had no fondness for the children. She cursed them, transforming them to live as swans for 900 years. They retained their speech and where gifted with song.
The spiral triskele on each corner of the throw represents the three bodies of water the siblings were forced to stay on for 300 years at a time.
There are different variations of the story but most end with the children transforming back after the 900 years are over, though now old and frail, before being baptised before their death and buried by a holy man.
