The Brown Bull Of Cooley - Hard Enamel Pin

£10.00

Donn Cuailgne, the Brown Bull Of Cooley, is one of the legendary bulls featured in the ancient Irish epic An Táin Bó Cúailgne, The Cattle Raid of Cooley.

Queen Maeve (Medb) sent her men to petition Dáire Mac Fiachna of Ulster for the use of his mighty brown bull for one year so it could sire an equally magnificent bull from her own herd, for she had none to match her husband Ailil's white bull Finnbhennach.
Dáire agreed and played host to Maeve's men by throwing them a feast. As the alcohol flowed Maeve's men let slip that she had ordered them to steal the bull if her request had been refused. When news got back to the Dáire he flew into a rage. Thus begins a great battle between the armies of Connaught and Ulster.
